WorldSkills Namibia is a member of the WorldSkills International with a mandate to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) skills excellence and development in Namibia
WorldSkills Namibia is the national hub for promoting TVET in Namibia.
Background
In 2010, Namibia joined WorldSkills International (WSI), a non-political, member-based organisation that promotes skills excellence around the globe and serves as a learning and collaborative platform among its members. Particularly, WSI organises an international skills competition known as WorldSkills Competition (WSC) in which young competitors from member countries compete and test their skills against their international peers. To date, WSI has over 85 (by 2022) members of which 9 are from Africa (Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia).
Namibia seized the opportunity to learn from the best practices in the world to accelerate skills development in Namibia which is much needed for the transformation of the country’s economy. For this, Namibia, through the NTA joined WSI in 2011 as an associate member and became a full member in 2015. Namibia has since participated in 3 editions of the WorldSkills Competition (Sao Paulo 2015, Abu Dhabi 2017, Kazan 2019). Similar to other member countries, NTA established WorldSkills Namibia (WSN) as a dedicated Secretariat to spearhead the promotion of TVET in Namibia and ensure that the country benefits optimally from its membership to WSI and its access to other member countries in terms of training materials, training delivery, expertise, system development and more.
