The National Disability Council of Namibia (NDCN) was established in 2008 by an Act of Parliament, Act No. 26 of 2004. The NDCN is a State Owned Enterprise with the Namibian government as the sole shareholder. The NDCN resorts under the Department: Disability Affairs.
THE MANDATE OF THE COUNCIL
The NDCN is tasked with a multi-facetted mandate which amongst others include the Monitoring of the implementation of the National Policy on Disability, Initiating the amendments to the National Policy on Disability in order to ensure that it takes account of the changing circumstances, Commenting on proposed legislation which may affect persons with disabilities in any manner, Identifying provisions in any law which may hinder the implementation of the National Policy on Disability and making recommendations in that regard.
IN ORDER TO BETTER PERFORM ITS FUNCTIONS, THE COUNCIL MAY GATHER INFORMATION REGARDING TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Persons with disabilities in Namibia, the type and severity of their disability, their needs, the extent to which they are integrated into society and methods by which they can be better integrated into society;
- Organisations of persons with disabilities and organisations rendering services to persons with disabilities and the type of services rendered by those organisations;
- Persons with disabilities in respect of or to whom services are rendered by the organisations referred to in paragraph (b);
